Stylish and practical, this headphone/headset holder offers a minimalist design reminiscent of the inclined Montreal Tower. Fully manufactured in Montreal using walnut offcuts, solid brass, and repurposed materials, its design allows for the headphones to rest safely (away from the floor) with no tension on the headphone band.
The base is made from compression moulded cotton-phenolic composite, an expensive but incredibly durable and dense material that we have re-directed from industrial waste streams generated during the manufacturing process of industrial bearings in our Montreal Factory. This industrial material usually has some very minor scratches and surface transfer impressions from the 70 year old press on which it is produced.
The story
The silhouette of our HOMA Headset Base is reminiscent of the inclined Montreal Tower, while its name is the acronym of HOchelaga and MAisonneuve.
Cities around the world are symbolized by a local architectural masterpiece: Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Rome has the old Forum and London has Big Ben. Montreal is often epitomized by its architectural marvel: the Montreal Tower of the Olympic Stadium, the highest inclined tower in the world, standing at 165 meters with an 45degree tilt.
Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, affectionately, humorously or deprecatingly referred by locals as ‘’the Big O’’ is located in the borough of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. Hochelaga was the original Iroquoian settlement on the island, while Maisonneuve is named after the co-founder of Ville-Marie (today Montréal). The area was developed at the turn of the 20th century to offer a modern and better adapted city to the large working class.
