The FABICI story

Spawned by a team of creative thinkers working at a nationwide industrial manufacturing company, FABICI is a mashup of century old capacity, craftsmanship, innovative engineering and art. The result is a next generation business model that celebrates and encourages open source, social responsibility, and conscious consumption.

A piece of history

Century old parent company

We are located in downtown Montreal along the Lachine Canal,  nestled within our century old parent company, Robco, that also has production facilities that we use in Edmonton and Toronto. By sharing the space with another company, we centralize and share knowledge, equipment and resources so we can achieve our goal of building a sustainable business model with the well being of people and the environement at the core. Locally built to last, like way back when…

The Why

Business as a vector for change

We are people who want to make things better.  We care, love to learn, love to build and love to improve.  We generally agree that society needs a strong nudge to get back on track towards positive progress; that our current path is unsustainable on several fronts.

We believe that the labour in products should not be viewed as an expense to reduce, but the single most important factor in achieving a fair and sustainable economy. People are not a cost; they are your neighbors, friends, and family.

The Who

Our team

We are a team of creative thinkers. Among our contributors are makers, musicians, artists, history buffs, DIY’ers, designers and homelabbers.  We have a “built not bought” philosophy and feel at home in communities that embrace open source.

We are gradually expanding our makerspace style innovation lab by adding and building new prototype-scale  equipment as the need arises.  We believe in open innovation and imagine amazing progress if passionate makers around the world could collaborate.

The What

Creatively built to last

Our goods are built in LOCAL factories that have been supporting Canadian jobs for more than 100 years. Artists render our pieces rare and unique, helping reduce unnecessary consumption by forging emotional bonds with collectors.

Our OPEN BOOK provides transparency, empowering you, the customer, to make informed buying choices. The IMPACT FACTS we publish show the impact of our products on people, the planet and the sustainability of the current economic system.
